I have sent a long email with detailed explanation to Werner. I will forward it to you off-list, but a short answer is: one has to modify the loader since pTeX is very special compared to 8-bit (pdfTeX) and utf-8 (XeTeX) engines and the current loader doesn't work. Mojca
