At some point this disagreement manifested itself as a split in the development lines. I'll bet you're using OpusTeX v0.84. I believe that was the last release version. I don't know all the details but OpusTeX is undergoing a complete re-write. I believe it will bear very little resblance to MusiXTeX (or OpusTeX 0.84) when it is done.
