Harald Fripertinger privately sent me a LaTeX file with some short embedded
TeX excerpts he had created using PMX. When he switched from version 2.00 of
pmx.tex to 2.35 the vertical spacing got all messed up. I traced it down to
the fact that as of version 2.3 (Feb. 2001) I had inserted a redefinition of
\parskip into pmx.tex. I did this in the process of building the
equal-staff-spacing option ("Ae"), but I'd have to do some more digging to
figure out exactly why.

The question for the list is: should I do anything about this? I'm inclined
not to. In the 11 months since I released 2.3 this is the first time anyone
has mentioned this problem. That suggests that not many people are using
LaTeX together with pmx.tex. That's not surprising, because (a) I doubt
that many people are pasting PMXx-generated TeX directly into LaTeX the way
Harald did, and (b) usually if someone uses musical excerpts with LaTeX,
they'll be short, and it wouldn't be a big deal to strip down the
PMX-generated TeX to where you wouldn't even need to input pmx.tex. If you
really did need it, you could redefine \parskip back to what LaTeX expects,
or maybe somehow input pmx.tex first.

However, I'd be glad to hear from list members if they think any action is
needed on this. And if there is such a desire, I'd appreciate some help
from the TeXperts in suggesting a work-around that lets "Ae" and LaTeX
co-exist in peace.
