I use them frequently for indicating changes between perfect and
imperfect modes in my modern editions of originally mensurally notated
music, for example the madrigals by Mogens Peders�n. 

I've defined this macro for the purpose

\def\mymetron#1#2{\lyricsoff\smallnotesize\metron{#1}{#2 1}\lyricson}

and usually reference it in M-Tx uptext clauses. With PMX it may be
inserted by means of \zcharnote as in-line musixtex expressions.
