I am using a lot TeX for choral music, and I'm afraid to say that for
Gregorian 4-lines neumes OpusTeX is fairly better than MusiXTeX because of
the treatment of text. In fact, textless Gregorian Chant does not exist -- and
from this point of view the manual is right as it says that using MusiXTeX
for Chant is nonsense :-)

As far as neumes are concerned, there was a good experiment (see the archives)
to reproduce Hildegard's neumes. Basically, one should have the time and
patience to design a set of chars reproducing at least St.Gallen and Metz (=
Laon) neumes -- they are the standard requirement for a basic performance of
Gregorian Chant; see for example the Graduale Triplex. I do not have the
competence necessary for this job, unfortunately, but this would be a great
step in musical typesetting.
