For your question: does PMX support brackets (akkoladen) ?
The answer is yes, via in-line TeX commands. For more details, look at the official manual of MusiXTeX, sections 2.2.4, 2.2.5 and 2.2.6.
For example, to get 4 music lines with brackets joining the first and second on the one hand and the third and the fourth on the other hand, use the following preamble:
