Luigi's manual is a wonderful thing, because it includes the visual examples that I was too lazy to make. It's a combination of direct translations of my manual and original text. We don't need to argue about whether it's original or a translation because it's both.
I didn't see anything more in Neil's remark than what he later explained: wondering how the enhanced-translated-into-Italian-translated-back-into-English version would compare with my original. In fact, I'm one of the few who has seen the result of the full cycle, because one of our list members has already translated Luigi's manual back into English (but hasn't finished working on it). At his request I edited parts of one version of it. I made quite a few edits, many just about language, fewer substantive. I also reorganized the section on slurs into what I thought was a more logical order. Altogether, I'd say the final result had the same facts and even copied some paragraphs almost verbatim, but was very different in style, visual appeal, and verbosity. Which version is better is a matter of personal opinion: short and concise, or leisurely, illustrated, but much longer.
