In addition to packaging MusiXTeX and the pre-processors for CTAN, it might be worthwhile to support MiKTeX also. (Maybe the two packages would be equivalent.)
The advice I have followed in the past is that the three-pass setup is broken in MiKTeX. Installing MiKTeX itself is not so hard. In the past, it has seemed like more work than necessary to correctly install MusiXTeX there.
