Your example raises several interesting but well-known points.
1. PMX can do a lot but it can't do everything. One thing that I have not
taken the time to program is how to make slurs and ties look perfect when
notes are very close together. It would be very tedious and difficult to
invent an automatic procedure to cover every case. And even if I did,
someone would want it to be done differently. That's part of the reason why
I have included the ability to manually adjust the vertical and horizontal
position of the start or end of any tie or slur.
2. I never recommend using font-based slurs and ties, and this example shows
the main reason: they just aren't flexible enough. Even if you did try to
adjust the ends of your ties, you couldn't get them to come out very pretty.
So please, always use postscript slurs and ties, activated with "Ap". I
know, they won't show up in dvi viewers or with dvi-to-pdf converters. So
use dvips to make a postscript, then gsview for previewing and making PDF's.
3. Here is one possible fix for next-to-last bar:
===================
Ap
...
c8d za+ {A+0-.3 b1- {B+0-.3 zg+ b8- }A+0+.3 zg+ }B+0+.3 {A a8- {B zd a }A zd
}B g8- f {A d ? {B ze {C zf {D za ? /
