The "undefined control sequence" is what happens when you try to compile a
latex document with plain tex. I assume the mtx document is latex, and I
erred in saying to try tex or etex; I should have said latex.

Also, the "\setmaxinstruments{24}..." commands in the earlier message are a
bit mysterious...I'm pretty sure the original mtx source didn't have them,
and I doubt if the mtx doc requires them.

I have to leave for work now; if there's no resolution by the time I return,
I'll try to locate the source, investigate the mysteries first hand, compile
it, and report back.
