I'm not. I'm the author of musixtnt (and associated
programs). I'm trying to determine why it doesn't work with
musixlyr.

I just meant that

\TransformNotes{<input>}{<output>}%

is more user-friendly than

\makeatletter
\def\vnotes#1\elemskip<input>\en{\noteskip#1\@l@mskip\@vnotes<output>\en}%
\makeatother

which is what it expands to. The rest is ordinary MusiXTeX
code. If you don't like it, don't use it. De gustibus non
est disputandum.

But can you modify an existing source in whatever notation
you do like so that

+ one of the instruments is transposed

+ one of the instruments is set in tiny notes

+ two of four instruments are discarded

+ the order of some of the instruments is inverted

etc.
