Without seeing an example score from Christian, I'll guess that the mbr is
simply off center but doesn't overlap the barlines on either end. If that's
so, I think the explanation is in the changes in how \mbrest does its
centering, which are related to recent changes in how \centerbar operates.
The 2nd and 3rd arguments of \mbrest are the extra space in pts needed to
the left and right of the mbr symbol. They should now both be zero for mbr's
bounded by normal barlines. If to the left of the mbr there's a meter or
signature, the second argument should be -.2*\musicsize. If there's a clef
to the right, the 3rd argument should be .55*\musicsize.
