I made some changes to pmx.tex (attached). Please consider
incorporating them.

1. Moved the version test to after PMX's own message. Reasons:
(a) If there is an error message, we want to know which version
of PMX is issuing it.
(b) If the file is not actually going to be input, there is no need for
the error mesage.

2. Put an exclamation mark in the message. Reason: that's how
TeX fatal error messages traditionally start, and musixtex.lua
exploits it to trigger onscreen display despite quiet mode.

3. Changed \end to \end{document}. Reason: LaTeX needs it
and plain TeX does not mind.

4. Added a comment explaining why TeX processing stops with
an error.
