Hi Hilmar - What cleanup is attempted now? I wasn't aware that htlatex etc.
removed anything.
In any case, I don't think it would be a good idea to change the behavior at
this late date. Those intermediate files can be helpful for debugging and bug
reports. I could imagine adding an option for such cleaning (if there isn't
one already ... I haven't checked).
