But ">" does compile OK using lualatex. I did try it before posting.No problem. pdf is fine. it shows ">" correct in section title. But issue is now closed for me.
Ah, I didn't know about this. You can probably work around this by making > active or using Lua callbacks, but I think it is best to just stick to \textgreater.
