Update on the Clovis Era Skeleton Found at Hoyo Negro, Quintana Roo

Archaeologists found the remains of a 12,000-13,000 year old girl near extinct animals in an underwater cave called Hoyo Negro. These dates place her within the Clovis time period. These are the oldest human remains found with extinct animals in the Americas. She has been named Naia. She was found near extinct sloths, saber toothed felines, and other extinct animals. Her DNA shows an Asian lineage. Divers can only stay an hour at a time in the deep waters. But 3D images of the site are being produced to create a virtual reality version of the cave, making it easier to study the site without the rigors of short diving. This will allow other archaeologists to study the site and the placement of the bones without diving into the dark waters.

(my note; These are probably the oldest human remains ever found from the Clovis era. Pre-Clovis human DNA and other remains have been found at Monte Verde, Chile and Paisley Cave, Oregon. The DNA study of Naia does not yet show the same complex origins that Clovis era Kennewick Man has shown. Both have Asian lineage, but Kennewick Man studies show relationships going back to pre-Siberian lineage. And it is instructive that a skeleton this far east still shows only Asian lineage).
