For those of you dead-set against Facebook please ignore this message.

There are numerous advantages to putting the TSAANL on Facebook.

In its first 24 hours of conception, 59 Texas cavers suddenly were
linked and communicating, in a way
that was not feasible until Zuckerberg came along.

In addition, there are functions off to the side that lets cavers chat
privately.

All the potential cavers in Texas, especially college kids and
high-school kids have a Facebook
app on their smart-phones. This is going to really become more
noticeable once they all get
their new phones and broadband-tablets this summer. It is almost as
revolutionary as when
the first phones were being installed in people's homes.

Now those 59 cavers, presuming they have a smartphone with a Facebook
app, have their caving
news at their fingertips, much faster than has previously been
available, and 24/7.

I can only presume there is a better way on Facebook to do this or
there will be someday. Someone
else is welcome to either tweak it, or offer a better solution that
does the same thing.

There are some disadvantages that could be addressed. At the
moment, I think anyone can
see the postings. But that can be fixed, but it makes it harder for
people to join. I don't think this
will have to be monitored like a listserve, but it is easy for people
to say something that gets
taken out of context, or is misspoke, or misunderstood, and gets someone upset.

Facebook may be a fad, but it seems to be a usable tool until
something better comes along.

I can see how Facebook is not for everyone, so anything newsworthy,
should be posted wherever it
would have been posted before Facebook came along.

Cavers are now reading the Facebook TSAANL on their smartphones before
they get out of bed in the mornings
and in their beds at night before they fall asleep.
