Oh yeah, everyone, also please vote for Michael Cicherski for TCMA
treasurer. He's looking for plenty to do. He loved being the ICS treasurer so
much he's chopping at the bit for more. He tells me these things.

I just talked to the kind folks down at Longhorn and the trip is now
half full.

The tour can accommodate 20, so, do the math.

This will be a fun trip with cavers you know and, hopefully, get along
with.

If you don't get along with them, the trip should really be interesting!

They can schedule a second group, but, the trip won't get underway until
~2 PM.

I wouldn't wait till Saturday to reserve your space. So call before
midnight tomorrow and grab your slot!

You must pay for the trip when you call, so have that plastic ready.

See you then!

The time that the park has requested we begin our trip has changed from
10 AM to 11 AM.

Please call to reserve a spot, if you haven't already done so.

Please call Pam Plant at (512) 756-4680.

See you there and please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Mark

This!

Good morning, y'all!

I have had a good response for the wild caving trip at Longhorn Caverns
State Park, scheduled for 10 AM this coming Saturday. I suggest leaving
TCR at 9 AM.

I'll have room for one.

To recap:

Longhorn Caverns State Park is a mere ~30 miles away.

Prices are:

$17 plus tax per person, if you have your own gear. Regular rate is
$25.

$27 plus tax per person, if you have your own gear and would like a
collectible t-shirt to commemorate your trip.

If you need to use their equipment it's $10.00 extra. Includes helmet,
light, and knee and elbow pads.

The trip is approximately 2 hours in length and will involve areas of
the cave that most of us have never been in.

They have a very nice cafeteria at the park, where we'll do lunch, and a
way cool Gift Shop. We'll be back in plenty of time for cavorting, rest
and relaxation in the afternoon.

This trip is suitable for kids, as well, so bring 'em along!

There still is room for more folks to participate, but, ...

IMPORTANT! Everyone needs to call the office and go ahead and make their
reservation so the Park will know how many guides are needed. You will
need to pay for it at that time.

Please call Pam Plant at (512) 756-4680.

This trip and TCR will be a great time and we'll see you there!

Mark

Hello TCR attendees,

I have an extra spot on the Longhorn Wild Cave Tour if anyone wants to go
who has not signed up and paid yet. A friend of mine is not able to make
TCR and I already paid for 2 spots. Let me know if you are interested.

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message --- I'm scanning, mainly as a demonstration of what can be done, the oldest Bexar Cavers for the TSS. From volumes 1 and 2, which were titled Alamo Area Chapter Newsletter, the TSS only has copies (or photocopies) of numbers 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 of volume 1 and numbers 2, 8, 9, 11, and 12 of volume 2. Those volumes were published in 1971 and 1972. The issues weren't really numbered. The numbers listed above are inferred from the dates of the meeting notices. Presumably at least some of the missing numbers exist. If anyone has copies, the TSS would appreciate originals, photocopies, or decent scans. (Scans can be sent directly to me.) The NSS library does not have the missing issues.

Also, the TSS's copy of volume 6, number 6 (June 1976) is in very poor condition, and only about half of the text is legible. It was spirit- duplicated ("purple Ditto") and has spent some time wet. If anyone can provide that issue, it would be appreciated.

Sorry, I meant archival scanning of Bexar Caver, not Bexar Facts.

Incidentally, the TSS really needs people to undertake the project of scanning all the various old Texas grotto newsletters. I have been doing one small part of it as a demonstration project, but I have plenty of things to do for the Association for Mexican Cave Studies, including scanning some of its own older publications. If you think you might be interested, contact somebody on the TSS board. I have a long writeup on how I scan things to produce a PDF file that is as legible as the original. I have used such PDFs to actually reprint a number of books, some of which have photographs better in the reprint than they were in the original. If you'd like to be sent a copy of the writeup (about 4700 words), ask. -- Mixon

Bill,

You might ask first if the grotto newsletter editors (current and former) can
supply original PDFs of the newsletters, before scanning some of the more
recent copies. I suppose the TSS has all copies of the Maverick Bull (Butch
Fralia scanned a lot of those), but perhaps not for the DFW grotto's Oztotl
Caver.

While you're enjoying TCR, take lots of photos suitable for posting on the

get the photos.

Cavers,

The Bexar Grotto is searching for several sets of lost survey instruments
(Suuntos or equivalent). They may have gone missing as long as 5 years ago
or more, so if it's possible that you borrowed a set from the grotto some
time in the past, please check to see if you may still inadvertently have
them. The Bexar Grotto name should be inscribed on the instrument. If you
know where these instruments are please reply.

Thank you,

Marvin Miller

You must pay for the trip when you call, so have that plastic ready.

See you then!

Subject: Longhorn Group Wild Cave Trip During TCR - If Interested, Read

Mark
