Charles,
You most certainly are welcome to join us!
Have you been following our progress? Are you familiar with the situation?
We have excellent landowner relations and we are permitted to camp near the
project. There are a few groups of seemingly tick-free live oaks in which to
camp. We bring our own water so as not to interfere accidentally with the
livestock but there is water by the barn. The cave is about a mile in from
the road.
A large chunk of the work is above ground, hauling buckets out of the cave
(on a rope, maybe with a winch depending on the condition of the winch),
bucket-lining them over to a bobcat bucket, where the tailings are then
moved to the area designated by the landowner. We are finally tunnelled back
to an area where there is no light and it takes at least 2 people to get the
buckets out to where they can be carried to the haul rope.
We take great care with the shovels and with the tailings, as the cave
drains many acres and we have found (and carefully documented) some
artifacts that have washed in from the pasture.
Here's a link to the summary of the dig:
http://www.caver.net/pbss/holenews/pbss5-09.pdf Page 5.
You can see more pics via the website. Here's how:
go to http://www.caver.net/jtpics/. The 1st listing is the main directory
and contains Bill Bentley's pics of various things caving and not caving.
Then ".ftpquota" then all my 5 Mouth pics.
If you still want to join us as I said, you are most welcome! I can send
directions, etc. when we're closer to the dig.
Jacqui

All,
As you may (or not) have noticed from the meeting notes, our October dig
in
Sonora has been changed to the weekend of October10th. As usual, Friday
evening through Sunday morning.
If I didn't hear from you before when I was calling for comments and/or
objections, no whining now.
I would sure like to hear from all who plan to attend, though. Jacqui
