Ditto to what Lyndon and Paul reported.

It was a fun and productive weekend, entertaining and energetic camaraderie, a
lot of enthusiasm from the Aggie Cavers (a great Grotto, it would appear!),
very accommodating and cordial park staff, free camping and a tour of Longhorn
Caverns, excellent weather, and a great view of the sunset and stars in the
Hill Country from the LCSP Observation Tower Saturday night!

And you can still be a part of it!

The next work weekend will be Saturday, November 1st!

Bring your leftover Halloween candy, any tools you may think would be helpful,
and a great attitude.

If you have any kind of sled, etc. that would help haul dirt in and out of the
passageway, please contact me so that I can get it from you at TCR or you can
bring it to LCSP next month.

It'll be a fun weekend!

I know a lot of folks had to cancel, in anticipation of TCR, especially the
cooks. Don't need 400-500 angry, hungry, and possible drunk cavers chasing our
chefs around the park, so TCR definitely came first.

Hope to see all of y'all and more next month!

Thanks again to Lyndon, Paul, and Alan Blevins and his contingent of Aggie
Cavers who blew off homework and cramming at A & M to come help out.

Mark Alman

Thanks for sending the update Paul. It was great meeting you.

We did not break through as we hoped for so we will be back first weekend of
November for more digging.

We stopped digging at around 3pm as we wanted to catch the last guided tour of
the day at 4pm. The guided tour lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Some headed back home after the tour. Six of us stayed behind overnight and
camped at Longhorn Caverns State Park. We had brats and dogs for dinner.

We spent the evening chatting on the observation tower with a 360 view of Texas
hill country. We could see bats flying around us. It was a cool clear evening.
Quite windy and no insects.

I'm looking forward to the next dig in November.

Due to a health issue, I won't be able to make TCR this year. I'd like to
encourage everyone to take lots of pictures and make them available for the
TSA website TCR 2008 photo spread.

Howdy Y'all,

This time next week I hope all of you are at Paradise Canyon
(http://paradisecanyon.com/) for the 31st Texas Cavers Reunion. If you been

before, you know you will have a great time. If you haven't been before,
you really need to come and have fun with all of us. The site is the same
as last year. The water is a little lower than last year but it is still
flowing well. The long range weather forecast looks like sunny and warm
days with cool nights. For more information and direction, visit the
Paradise Canyon website, the TSA website
(http://www.cavetexas.org/maps/tcr2007.html), or the TCR website
(http://www.oztotl.com/tcr).

The cost for TCR is the same as last year, $25 for adults, $15 for children,

and $15 if you are an old time Texas caver! We will have the hot tub and
sauna as usual. We are planning a great feed on Saturday night followed by
various awards and wonderful door prizes (thanks Whole Earth Provision
Company! and others). The Bexar Grotto will have a spaghetti dinner on
Friday night for a small donation and TCMA will have a breakfast on Saturday

morning for a small donation. There will be a TSS meeting on Saturday
morning. On Sunday, there will be a general members meeting of the Texas
Cave Management Association followed by a general members meeting of the
TSA.

We have the park until 4 PM on Sunday so please help us out by picking up
any trash when you leave.

See ya'll there...

Allan

The recycling containers will be available again this year at TCR. There will
be a pair of containers at the Bexar Grotto camp and another pair near the
cooks area. Be prepared to recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

and thanks, ........ Sam

Can somebody please tell me what date the cave picture appeared on the
Astronomy Picture of the Day site? It's one of my favorite sites, but I've been
on almost a month's bedrest due to chest pains and acute renal failure and
apparently missed that picture. After all the comments, I certainly want to see
it. Today's picture of the day is what comes up when you click on the link.

Have you heard - TCMA is having a garage sale at TCR!. We need your
donations. Bring that gently used gear and other stuff. Please mark a
minimum price on the unusual or expensive items. You can mark the prices on
the other items, or if you don't have time, we'll do it.

Thanks for your help and support!

And it seems like a good time to keep looking for caves for us to purchase -
Have you seen anything recently?

News about 50 Years Of Texas Caving

v First, my thanks to all who have supported this effort by purchasing the
book. Also, your many kind comments have been noted and appreciated.

v Second, some of you have read the book closely will no doubt have noticed
errors, omissions, or grevious blunders. Please send your comments to me as
soon as possible so that they may be incorporated into the errata which I will
issue in the near future.

v Third, 50 Years was first sold at the Texas Caver Reunion of October
2007. The introductory price was $50. This was a special price-purposely set
low so that the caving community would have the opportunity to purchase the
book as inexpensively as possible before it was released for wider distribution
and the various vendors take their necessary profit for marketing.

v This introductory pricing will expire shortly after the coming Texas Caver
Reunion. Copies will be available at the Reunion. Don't delay. Act now
before the price increase!

--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message --- The Mendip Cave Registry, the result of a long-term ongoing effort to compile a complete catalogue of sites of speleological interest in the Mendip region, is now available on the web with open access to all. The website offers online browsing of the entire registry database (1,804 entries at the time of writing), with optional filtering and sorting by features such as length and depth. Search facilities allow for finding sites by name (including alternative names) or, more interestingly, by entering or selecting an address or location and looking for sites within a given distance. Descriptions include details of known hydrology and, for those interested in researching the history of a site, a link is provided to the recently opened online Mendip Cave Bibliography database, which now contains well over 27,000 structured references to literary material published from ad 883 to the present day.

The results of searches are shown graphically using interactive Google Maps that clearly show site locations overlaid on the now crystal- clear satellite imagery available across the Mendip region. As with any effort of this kind, information quickly becomes out of date and errors and omissions are inevitable - so this is where you can help. Links to submit feedback are provided on each page and the registrars encourage you to make use of them to report any mistakes or offer additional information.

The Mendip Cave Registry and Archive website is at: www.mcra.org.uk/registry . Report: Matt Voysey in Descent 204 Oct/Nov 2008
