I say put more money in decent public transportation so that we can all share
the cost more equitably. That's one lesson we could learn from the european
countries. Their gas is $6-8/gal.

Here in southern oregon, we have no choice but to drive. Crappy public
transportation at best. Portland, on the other hand, has one of the best public
transportation systems in the country and, I understand, ridership is up.

I saw on GMA this a.m. that driving overall in the U.S. is down more than 2%
since gas went to $4/gal. One guy was saying that his big gas guzzler SUV has
been sitting up for 3 months and he hasn't put 1 gal of gas in it. Here you
can't even give them away and I saw some people jeering an "Arnie-mobile" on
the street the other day. I paid $50+ to fill up my little Ranger yesterday.
Fortunately I don't have to do that but every other week. It's getting pretty
decent mileage.> Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2008 06:54:54 -0500> From:

Unfortunately, our great-grandkids will be paying $ 100 a gallon for gasoline.>
