MicroSoft has a new download available to the public for upgrading Windows XP.
More than likely you are using their latest version called Service Pack 2 ( or SP2 for short) The new download is a "pre-release" of Service Pack 3 ( SP3 ). You will need a high-speed connection to download it and it takes an hour, so do it when you are going to be away from your computer. Some recommend that you do not download it. A few others wrote that it worked fine. I would presume that the final retail version of Windows XP SP3 should be available for purchase by March. That is what I would put on an old small laptop, based on what little I know about computers. If I could afford a new laptop with an 18 inch screen and quad-core processor, and blu-ray drive, then I would probably want to run Vista instead of XP, but they don't give you a choice, so it doesn't really matter. There are geeks on the web who are tweaking Vista for the purposes of gaming. It is called Vista Lite, a stripped down version of Vista, that only has the components that the PC games require.
