I think the general public can now download the Service Pack 3 of Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=114F3599-12AF-42B2-AAB1-B969A62C68A7&displaylang=en Note that they indicate that this is not the final version of Service Pack 3, but rumors are that in 2 or 3 months more of testing, they hope to have it finished. Once that happens, I believe many people would rather use XP than risk the problems that Vista is alledged to have. I really don't know much about computers, but I feel MicroSoft's strategy is not in the best interest of computer users. I think they should have just come out with one version of Vista instead of 4, and it should have only been available in 64 bit or 128 bit. And then they shouldn't have sold it in box form until the product was fully tested. But had they done that, Mac and Linux would have probably taken advantage of the time gap between XP and Vista. Surely MicroSoft will learn something from this and their next operating system Windows 7 or whatever it will be called will hopefully be a great product. I am guessing by then, most geeks will have multiple operating systems running on their computers.
