The other famous cave is Xoxafi, close to Pachuca (I believe). It was
interesting to explore those and find an altar all the way into the
cave. On the way out we found another group going it. We had helmets,
lights, caving clothes, a rope and webbing (there were a couple of short
drops, but we found ladders there), they were in street clothes, with a
handful of small candles... For a few seconds we just exchanged looks,
kinda like "hmm, so what are you doing here?" in both sides' minds.

There have been a few articles on caves in Hidalgo in the AMCS
Activities Newsletter. The most famous cave is probably Grutas
de Tolantongo, profiled in ANL 17. A more general article on Hidalgo
appeared in ANL 15. Several other issues have brief reports in Mexico
News. I did not notice the name Calnali in any of them but I am not
familiar with Hidalgo, so I don't know if any of these might be in the
area you're interested in. A search of older issues might be instructive.
