Though the one you picked up from a dive shop is probably not up to the
same standard, as you point out. However, for diving the loads aren't
the same as in caving :-)

It appears to be high-quality and stainless steel.

I plan to use it for a key-ring.

But it seems like it has potential use somewhere on your gear loop
of your caving harness.

It is the size of the toy carabiners sold in hardware
stores.    It is probably only designed to safely hold 150 pounds.

I have seen cavers with regular oval shaped small quick-links
on their climbing systems, for attaching ascenders and hanging
your heavy pack beneath you or clipping spare gear to your
harness.
