Be warned that alleged hybrids from American manufacturers such as the
Mercury thing that David mentioned are really little more than systems for
shutting down the engine when you're stopped and automatically restarting it
again when you take your foot off the brake. True, they recapture some
energy when you're slowing down and provide a bit of the power when you're
accelerating, but they provide nowhere near the advantages of the Honda
Civic Hybrid or Toyota Prius systems, which themselves prove to provide a lot
less mileage improvement in real life than the silly EPA figures. (You
_might_ get near the EPA figures is you always accelerate and deccelerate
very gently, never drive over 60, and don't run the AC.) If you _really_
want to be green and don't mind that you'll never get your money back in
fuel-cost savings.... -- Mixon
