22 days ago, I described away to build a better flashlight.

You can now buy that flashlight retail at Sears, for
about $ 25.

The advantage to this flashlight is that you can switch between
the more powerful 1 watt LED and 3 less powerful LED's.

This flashlight appears to be rugged enough to take caving.

Unfortunately, there are no power settings, so you can't dim the
light or boost it.

I haven't seen a flashlight like this anywhere else yet.

I have always carried a small flashlight in my cavepack as a back-up
or for using in walking passage. However, with all the tiny
cheap LED headlamps on the market now, it seems more practical
to carry an extra headlamp instead of a flashlight. For example,
there are several headlamps that will fit in your shirt pocket. It is
also
a lot easier now to mount several headlamps to your helmet.

In summary, with a cheap flashlight available like the one above, it makes
no
sense to use a krypton-type flashlight for anything, especially caving.
