Really, I gotta agree with Joe.. It was an interesting post about the
artifacts of racism, and I think it's educational to see the varying
degrees with which places in the deep south are dealing with the
effects of this part of their history. History is just that--- it
can't be undone, and it's brimful of abhorrent behavior, from which
one might hope insight can be gained. If we can't even discuss the
fact that the "N" word existed and was considered everyday speech and
non-offensive in our recent past, then how are we to reconcile it?
Blotting out the past is not the best way I can think of to move
forward. Ed appropriately used asterisks in his own words, to support
his belief that the word was indeed offensive, and I took it at that,
myself.
I don't know Ed from Adam, and maybe he's really an axe murderer, but
he certainly doesn't deserve to be pilloried over this email, and
it's downright useless to get all in a kerfuffle over it.
And now, back to hybrid milage and battery life-span.

While I abhor racism I took Ed's posting as nothing of the sort. I
found it to be a unique foray into historical terms being cleansed
from
geographic databases and how different states were doing that. I
thought it was quite interesting.
I have found the cavetex group to be quite tolerant of many things via
my own experiences and the actions of others. A few people are always
quick to flame, I have been one of them, but I don't think anyone
should
be expected to cleanse their e-mails to avoid offending everyone.
