I was curious about the new pit. Is a
sketch or map available for viewing?
The description posted earlier explained that
the pit was not on the surface but down in the cave. Right?
Here is what Bill Mixon posted recently:
That new 336-meter pit (open to the surface) in
Quertaro was found by cavers from the IPN group
in Mexico City. They mapped it first and
measured the depth at 337 meters by measuring
the rope. Their map, reprinted from the
proceedings of the 7th Mexican National Caving
Conference in Monterrey in February, appears in
"Mexico News" in the new AMCS Activities
Newsletter 28. It is impressive that the
original crude depth figure differs by only 1
meter from the value gotten by the team of
American and Mexican cavers who made an improved map recently.
So, get a copy of the latest "Activities
Newsletter" and you can see the map. And it is
not inside the cave, but open to the surface.
