That is what Drs. McCracken and Kunz and others are doing, as Ed said, "proper scientific research to find out the exact answer to this question". Of course it's science so there will never be an 'exact' answer, but there will be an answer and we will learn from the research and hopefully a decrease in the use of harmful pesticides will result.

Bill makes a good point, which might be further augmented by the fact that highway vechicles also kill millions of bugs, but no one seems to think this provides a benefit to agriculture. The real point is that someone needs to do proper scientific research to find out the exact answer to this question. I therefore propose to submit a four million dollar grant application...
