I don’t post near as often as I used to when I was TSA chairman and I know
y’all are eternally thankful for that!

But, like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, some things never
change.

Like certain cavers getting bogged down in nonsense, minutiae, and chronic
cases of “got-be-rightus”.

But, in a more caving related vein…

I was wondering if/when the minutes from the TSA Spring meeting will be
published and if/when the next issue of “The TEXAS CAVER” will be released.

The reason I ask is twofold: I haven’t paid my TSA , TCMA, or NSS dues in
several years and I’m looking for reasons and justification to do so.

(THAT should elicit some responses now, huh?! ☺ )

I know a lot of other folks here don’t pay dues to the TSA/TCMA/respective
Grotto/NSS and never have or never will, but, at least, I will admit to it.

The reasons I have quit paying are several:

· Wife, five kids, and five grandkids that I travel and do outdoor
things with that don’t involve caving.

· Lots of national parks that I haven’t visited, but, I’m catching up
on (three in April alone!).

· Distances from Dallas to go caving and, frankly, bored/burned out
from 20+ years of caving.

· Ever increasing dues versus diminishing returns on investments for
belonging to said organizations.

· Personality conflicts in local grotto. (Contact offlist).

So, after entering the Texas caving community back in the mid 90’s as a young
firebrand wanting to get his, then 10 YO and 6 YO sons underground, they now
are 31 and 27 (joined by a 22 YO sister in the Navy) and we now are on to
other activities.

When we do go caving (there are still plenty of opportunities to go, without
belonging to any organization), we either assist at some of the volunteer
projects at the Texas State Parks we have developed connections with or we head
out to the BIG caves in the greatness of New Mexico!

Now that I have thrown this firebomb, y’alll can weigh in or stand back and
enjoy the flames!

Glad I could help and liven up (divert?) the conversation!

Remember that header, dammit!
