I got to visit with the Texans' mascot this last year who does a world record swing stunt in the stadium. He indicated they do multiple dead load test runs followed by multiple stuntman runs after which he runs through without costume and finally in full costume. I'd imagine Gaga used a similar setup, if not the same. Someone probably said, "hey, we've got it, let's use it!"
