Sometimes, when life just beats you down, the best thing to do is run to your nearest store and buy a new LED flashlight. So that is what I did.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-1000-Lumen-Virtually-Unbreakable-Aluminum-Flashlight-99294/205937853 Calling this flashlight a manly flashlight seems like a fair description. It allegedly has a drop rating of 29.53 feet. and a water depth rating of 3 feet. This thing weighs about as much as a 2 liter plastic bottle of your favorite soft-drink. The light pattern is both a spot-light and flood at the same time and they blend together well. There is a dim setting which is the one you would probably normally use. It is well constructed. Nothing cheezy about it. It has a rubber cover on the lens housing. You could probably hit something with it and break whatever you hit. It would be fun to mount 2 of these on your helmet just to go to caver parties. It is about the size of a toddler's whiffle-ball bat. I would take this to La Boca behind the dam south of Monterrey Mexico., or maybe on a trip into a large commercial cave if they let you bring flashlights. I guess the only criticism is that it really doesn't put out 1000 lumens, but probably more like 500 but spread out over a larger area than a normal 500 lumen light. And they could have added another dim setting, or just more settings, but that is not something $ 38 flashlights normally have. Their are bigger and brighter flashlights, but not for $ 38, and readily available all over town at any Home Depot. I am going to have this light on every road-trip I go on. Worst case scenario is I can trade it for a mordida when the transitos of Tamaulipas try to hustle me for some money. David Locklear NSS # 27639
