My guess is that a few of them have histoplasmosis (best guess at the “respiratory infection” cited by various new sources), and they want to ensure that the doctors catch all the possible other problems they might have, including gastrointestinal problems from consuming cave water.
My other guess is that they kept them quarantined in order to control their access to reporters. What do you think would have happened if the first 4 or 8 were removed from the cave without incident, but someone in a later group had experienced trouble on the way out of the cave? It’s mind boggling to think about how the families would have been besieged by reporters from all over the world—and as we can all see, there’s no shortage of international media at this location. A number of psychologists interviewed on CNN have been asked to speculate on the sorts of lingering psychological effects upon the boys of this incident, and the Chilean miners of Copiapó are often mentioned (see http://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-chile-miners-thailand-cave-20180706-story.html). I haven’t noticed any of them focusing on the effects of having a media circus surround them once they are released from the hospital. :) Diana ************************************************** Diana R.
