Live Science updated this morning their article about the potential health
reasons for quarantining the Thai kids and coach.

It’s so frustrating that the doctor from Johns Hopkins mentioned bats and
rabies (3rd paragraph).

My guess is that a few of them have histoplasmosis (best guess at the
“respiratory infection” cited by various new sources), and they want to ensure
that the doctors catch all the possible other problems they might have,
including gastrointestinal problems from consuming cave water.

My other guess is that they kept them quarantined in order to control their
access to reporters. What do you think would have happened if the first 4 or 8
were removed from the cave without incident, but someone in a later group had
experienced trouble on the way out of the cave? It’s mind boggling to think
about how the families would have been besieged by reporters from all over the
world—and as we can all see, there’s no shortage of international media at this
location.

A number of psychologists interviewed on CNN have been asked to speculate on
the sorts of lingering psychological effects upon the boys of this incident,
and the Chilean miners of Copiapó are often mentioned (see
http://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-chile-miners-thailand-cave-20180706-story.html).
I haven’t noticed any of them focusing on the effects of having a media circus
surround them once they are released from the hospital. :)

Can anyone speak to the extreme measures being taken by the Thai medical team
to keep the boys in quarantine? Is that really necessary? Are they afraid the
boys might have contracted something in the cave or are they afraid that their
immune systems might be weakened and they are protecting them from being
infected by visitors?

Subject: [Texascavers] ABC 20/20 Special on Thailand Cave Rescue

ABC will air a special edition of 20/20 tomorrow evening (Tuesday July 10, 8:00
pm - 9:00 pm Mountain Daylight Time) on the Thailand cave rescue.

As the next group of cave divers enter the cave, they are hopeful of
bringing out all four remaining boys and their coach,
