just another rant from David Locklear

The Howdy Party is just 12 days away or less. I have been to my fair
share
of Howdy Party's and they are lots of fun. Usually good food, and good
music along with
a large assortment or variety of cavers who are in a jovial mood. You
might meet some caver famous
for doing something like connecting El Sotano de San Agustin to Nita Nanta,
or one of the few
to ever push deep into Cueva Diamante deep in the El Abra ( or maybe both )

You might meet cavers who go on expeditions to caves like the one in the
map in the link below:

       http://www.usdct.org/images/maps_pena84/pc_84_mid.jpg

Or you might meet a caver that climbs antenna towers, or maintains a famous
caver web-page or
operates a ham-radio ( or all three )

Anyways, I am just daydreaming tonight.

The reality is, that I probably could have flown directly
to Helena, spent 2 days there and attended the Howdy Party and come home,
had I purchased plane
tickets about 3 months ago. But my situation then was about as grim as
it is now. I am not
100 % certain where I am sleeping tomorrow night. But the odds are good
that I am going to pay my ex-girlfriend
some money to let me stay in an extra room in her apartment. I have sort
of been here off and on for
3 months, but it is not a good solution to my predicament.

I have been self-employed now 20 years. That may be something that many
people wish they could
do. But the difficulty of it is out of reach for most people. I only
mention that, because in order for
me to go anywhere out of town for any length of time, I have to totally
shut down. I simply can't trust
anyone to pass work to. I am better off to turn down work than to accept
work and have someone else
muck it all up. So not only do I miss work during the time I am away,
but I have to also make a buffer
around that time of no work, just to make sure I can be gone. Meaning, I
would have to nearly miss two
weeks of work, and possibly lose customers permanently. Meaning, I would
need to start turning down work tomorrow
when I am not stable enough to be doing that. That all being said, I am
in the sour mood to
just say **** my customers, as they are all arrogant ***h**es.

There is really no way in H*** that I would drive to Helena, Montana.
But just for grins, I posted
a Craigslist ad.

https://houston.craigslist.org/rid/6647289426.html

My longest roadtrip this year was to the TSA Spring Convention. That
drive wiped me out.

The good news, is that instead of going anywhere, I could stay home and
work lightly, and have a Staycation and only spend a few
hundred dollars on dining out and a upscale weekly motel.

Almost all of my deliveries this week were jobs that got postponed because
of Hurricane Harvey.
I think I am just going to have to accept that attending this year's
convention was just not part
of my destiny. I have serious doubts that I could even drive as far as
Denver, especially alone.

The only good news I have is that more of my customers are paying me online
now. I received
my first payment today with the CASH app.

I think my Sequoia would make it to Dallas and back with no problem. It
seems to be running
better than it did when I drove to Ely, Nevada Convention or part of the
way to the Rio Rancho,
New Mexico Convention.

Anyways, you all have fun there, and maybe I will try harder in 2019 to get
there.
