Two weeks ago I took a trip to Spring Creek Cave, Kendall Co., Texas, near Cave Without a Name. I’ve been there many times before. Over the past few years friends and I have pushed and mapped all of its tributaries.
I had never before taken a trip to the cave in the summer when I thought there was a sizable population of Mexican free-tail bats utilizing it as a maternity cave. We were surprised that only five bats were seen, expecting to see hundreds, if not thousands. What can someone tell me about what’s known about the bats of Spring Creek Cave?
