• Revert to USER. LOGNAME doesn't get propagated in subshells at least part of the time. This may depend on the shell version or other system-specific configuration.
In multiplatform environments, people frequently seem to use LOGNAME || USER. I've chosen to revert to USER for clarity, but we (TM bundle collective) may prefer to go with LOGNAME || USER for paranoia's sake.
