Originally tm_dialog would not read parameters from stdin when stdin was a tty, but that line was commented. Was this done just for testing? Or is it actually desired to type the parameters in the terminal window?

Definitely not desired. At one point, Xcode's New Project command stopped working if that line was uncommented. This may have been due to something weird on my system, as that doesn't make much sense.
