I can see b, but I am not sure what you mean by a. We will still need to be displaying the error log, will there be other options for that?

I only mean the name ‘html’. The status/error log will stay in the HTML output window, just the viewer variable should a) be about PDF only, and b) not use the term ‘html’ to indicate that TextMate’s own PDF-showing capabilities should be used to show the PDF.

Any suggestions on what value should be indicating TextMate's PDF- showing capabilities? Perhaps just "tm")? I suppose the mere absence of a setting might be enough? Or perhaps it should also be a fallback if the application the variable is set to is not found?

I think it's fine to just leaving it as the default, though if there are going to bundle (or maybe root-scope-based?) specific overrides, then maybe setting the variable to "None" would revert it to using TM’s webkit view for pdf.
