You're bound to poll for changes i.e. every minute, so solutions might exist that mean lesser load to the server, personally I read about this a while ago, but don't recall any details right now. And I even thought about serving my Mercurial clone of t-h.o publicly to have more collaboration options, like Trac itself did recently with official Hg and Git repos. Maybe someone already did it, and only I didn't recognize it by now?
