We've generally been pretty high on the Volvo S40. It has consistently offered cutting-edge design, reassuring safety and a premium feel for many thousands less than perennial sport-sedan all-stars like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G35. But the 2009 Volvo S40 no longer offers the impressive value it used to -- the base price of the entry-level 2.4i has risen by more than $4,000 to roughly what the turbocharged T5 model cost last year. As for this year's T5, now known as the T5 R-Design, its base price has ballooned to $32,350, which pits it squarely against the aforementioned all-stars.

Volvo officially introduced its revised C70 convertible earlier today at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Though almost identical to the outgoing model mechanically, the revised C70 features a new, more dramatic look outside and some revisions to the interior. Heavily influenced by the S60 Concept that made its debut at last January’s Detroit Auto Show up front, the C70 confirms the new styling direction for the Ford-owned Swedish automaker. Compared to the current car, the 2010’s headlights are larger and more swept back, giving the car a slightly more aggressive look. The front fascia also has bolder character lines with the signature Volvo grille now looking more predominate. The 2009 Volvo C30 adds two new trim levels, the C30 T5 replaces C30 Version 1.0 and the C30 T5 R-Design replaces C30 Version 2.0 in the C30 lineup. The C30 T5 includes Volvo rear badge lettering that is spread further apart, rear-seat seatbelt reminder, Bluetooth hands-free phone interface as a stand-alone option and custom build Savile Grey exterior replaces Flint Grey.
