Sadhhvi Pragya Singh Thakur - In the past few weeks, l met her a few times.
I have known her for a long time. It has been more than fifteen years since
I first met her. She has been in imprisonment for past six years on
allegations of participation in terror activities. Though no allegations
have been proved and there seems to be no evidence against her, she
continues to be imprisoned. The brutal way she was tortured has no parallel
in Indian history. Even the bad treatment ...of Veer Savarkar by British
seems soft in comparison to what she had to endure. Due to the torture, she
has been reduced to a cripple. She, now, has breast cancer, cervical,
spondylitis and many other physical problems. However, when I met her what
struck me was her strong spirit, her faith in God, her self confidence and
passion for the country. She seeks no sympathy. The smile on her face comes
from a deep sense of contentment, peace and faith in divine power. It is a
highly inspiring experience to meet her. Every time I have walked back home
after seeing her, I have realized my own smallness and also the pettiness
of all troubles that I have ever faced in my life. How l wish that I could
have some of the strength that she has!
