19 (2). THE FOUR STORIED PROTECTION.
*Varuna got frightened and ashamed at the failure of his daredevil plans
and thoughtless actions. He wished to make up for his folly by worshiping
Lord Siva in the form of Chokkalingam.*
*Even as he was making up his mind to worship the Lord, the problem due to
his extended stomach vanished without a trace.*
*He had a holy dip in the Pond of Golden Lotuses. He adorned himself with
holy ash on his forehead and rudraaksha maalas.*
*The rivers gave him their holy water in golden pots for doing abishekam.
Karpaga Vruksham gave him the sandal paste, flowers, gold vessels, new
dresses and the incenses needed for the puja.*
*Kaamadhenu gave him the panchaamrutham, pancha gavyam, dhoop and deepam
for the puja. Varuna did an elaborate pooja in the prescribed manner.He did
the sahasranaama archana for Siva with 1000 beautiful pearls.*
*Lord Siva was pleased with Varuna and wanted to bestow him with a boon.
But Varuna had already got rid of his problem and desired nothing,*
*Varuna begged for Lord’s pardon for his thoughtless actions in challenging
the all powerful god.*
*Since the four clouds protected the city of Madhuraapuri, it got new name
“The city with four storied protection!**” *.
