Q1         Can youprovide some interesting information about Sarabheshwarar?

A1          Gandaberunda, traces its origin to the Puranas(Rigveda), where Lord
Vishnu takes anincarnation.

According to Hindumythology, the two-headed bird is said to possess immense
magical strength andis seen in numerous temple sculptures all over the country.
When themythological Lord Vishnu assumed the avatar of Narasimha to
defeatHiranyakashyapu, Vishnu’s avatar showed such strength and power that it
wassaid to have created a fear of total destruction among the gods. The gods
had no choice but to seek the help of Lord Shiva, who assumedthe avatar of
Sharabha (an eight-legged beast, with two heads) whichangered Narasimha even
more. This led him to turn into the two-headed bird –the Gandaberunda,a
fabulous, mythical bird having two heads, believed to be stronger than lions
andelephants; a griffin-like bird.

Gandaberunda ,anerstwhile title used to be conferred on or assumed by, a man of
great velour.

The bird is generallydepicted as clutching elephants in its talons and beaks,
demonstrating itsimmense strength. In a coin [ಕಾಸು] foundin Madurai, it is
shown holding a snake in its beak. All 2-dimensionaldepictions show a
symmetrical image similar to the Double-headed eagle whileother images show the
long tail feathers resembling a peacock, which is thenational bird of India.

In the Chennakeshava temple of Belur, Karnataka,Gandaberunda, the two faced
bird is carved as a scene of"chain of destruction" result in destruction of
Universe.

The first sculptureof Gandaberunda dates back to 1047 at Shiralakoppa, in
Shivamogga district, under the Chalukya.  This year marks 125years of
institution of the Order of Gandaberunda, meritorious personalitiesduring the
regime of the Wodeyars.

Many families whosemembers were recipients of this insignia have fond memories
to share. Some havepreserved it safely.

Bengaluru’s firstextension, Chamarajpet. Chamarajendra Wodayar the 23rd
Maharaja of Mysore, proclaimed Gandaberunda as the royal emblem and instituted
the Order ofGandaberunda in 1892.

It was a gem-studdedmedallion with a necklace, and was conferred in recognition
of meritoriousservice rendered by public servants, philanthropists
litterateurs, artists andeminent citizens of the Mysore kingdom. According to
the the Palace AnnualGradation List in the state archives, between 1892 and
January 26, 1950, asmany as 504 medallions were presented. Some of the awardee
families includedewans Sir K Sheshadri Iyer, MN Krishna Rao and Sir Mirza
Ismail.

The Order ofGandaberunda gained a slow significance among the royalty as well
as citizenryafter the medallion was conferred as awards.

It started gaining prominence after Krishnaraja Wodeyarmade it a practice of
awarding the medallions.

If one looks  at the earlier Mysore symbols, Gandaberundawas as just a part of
it. It gained relevance over the years and soon theKarnataka government made it
the state symbol.

It is seen on top of KSRTC buses also,  That state was enlarged in 1956 and
renamedKarnataka in 1973, and the Gandabherunda continues to bethe official
state emblem of Karnataka. It is used as the official emblem of theKarnataka
state government because it is a symbol of strength. It is believedto be
capable of fighting the forces of destruction.

A sculpture depicting a Gandaberunda is found on the roofof the Rameshwara
temple in the temple town of Keladi inShimoga District, the capital of the
Keladi Nayakas. The Gandaberunda was alsoused by the Wodeyar dynasty of Mysore
as the Royal emblem. The KarnatakaGovernment adopted this symbol as the state
symbol and can be found on busterminals and tickets issued by Karnataka State
Road Transport Corporation.Coins(Gold pagoda or gadyana) from the rule of
Achyuta Deva Raya  The crest of the Indian navy ship INSMysore  features a
Gandaberunda.

Coins embossed withGandaberunda were minted by the Chalukyas, Vijayanagara
kings andWadiyars.   Historian Professor P VNanjaraje Urs -- who has widely
researched Mysore State -- tells that the Gandaberunda was first used as asign
on coins in Vijayanagar mints, many of which still exist.

The Vijayanagar kingsissued a large number of gold coins called Varaha(also
called பொன்   inTamil and ಹೊನ್ನು  in Kannada). Thesegold coins have the images
of various Hindu deities and animals like the bull, the elephant andthe fabulous
Gandaberunda (a double eagle, sometimes holding anelephantin each beak and
claw). The legend contains the king’s name either inNagari or in Kannada script.

My note- I haveread Narasimha could be cooled by only Mahalakshmi.

Q4         Can youprovide some added information about  GENERAL SCIENCE?

 A.  Why science is the bestsubject?

Problem-solving andcritical thinking are two of the most important skills
students learn inschool. ... In this way, science is one of the most important
subjects studentsstudy, because it gives them the critical thinking skills they
need in everysubject.

In science most of the subject are included like math , English and alsosome
part of social science . that's why it enhances  knowledge

General science is aninterdisciplinary major that gives one a gist of all  the
sciences. One studies biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, and/or
psychology — and at least a year ofmathematics. It helps one to choose one to
choose  branch of science for  pursuing advanced work in that discipline.

B.Pakku vetti (Aracanut cutter) ....significance and use

The Aracanut cutteris one of the wonderful discoveries of our ancestors. Made
for cuttingAracanut, the tool is crafted in a variety of styles. During
marriage and otherauspicious functions it is customary to chew betel leaf with
this nut ;afterfood .The chromium saltin the Aracanut, prevents sudden
dizziness or blood clots. When one over eats,it is advisable chew this nut.

The practice ofcutting the whole NUT and folding it into Betel Leaf,  chewing
it with a little bit of lime and apiece of tobacco (! cancer prone)is still in
practice , especially in villages. But use of Aracanut is declining.

A habit passed downthrough generations, chewing betel nut is a time-honored
custom for 10–20 percentof the world’s population. Today, the World Health
Organization (WHO) estimatesthat around 600 million people use some form of
betel nut. It is one of themost popular psychoactive substances in the world,
in fourth place afternicotine, alcohol, and caffeine. But while betel nut is an
important culturaland social tradition in many countries, growing evidence
points to serioushealth effects from regular use.

C.GOLD MINING

Gold mining is aglobal business with operations on every continent, except
Antarctica, and goldis extracted from mines of widely varying types and scale.

On average, it takesbetween 10-20 years before a gold mine is even ready to
produce material thatcan be refined.

South Africa and theUS host two each of the world’s ten largest gold mines,
while Indonesia,Russia, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Australia, and the Dominican
Republic housethe remaining. South Deep gold mine in South Africa has the
largest golddeposits in the world. The U.S. owns the most gold, reserve  equals
8,133 tons,

As a rule, when the value of the dollarincreases relative to other
currencies around the world, the price of goldtends to fall in U.S. dollar
terms. It is because gold becomes more expensivein other currencies. As the
price of any commodity moves higher, there tend tobe fewer buyers, in other
words, demand recedes.
