GENERAL SCIENCE
Dearfriends,

Today I wasjust going through my certificates to put it in a new Polythene
folderpurchased. I found I have answered a paper on General science in the
first yearof my BSc examination also.

On those daysthe brain never tried to think how Physics, Chemistry, Botany and
Zoology couldbe together called General Science. I simply accepted they
together calledGeneral Science. Today at 66, I can grasp these subjects formed
the science inGeneral of the nature and oriented to different aspects.

Sometimesthere used to be mingling and diverging also between the subjects. All
these subjects are science-in simple meaning they are oriented to know why and
how..

Recently Iread elsewhere brain grows at all ages but sometimes concentration
could bedifficult as age advance. I felt concentration depended on the interest
to thesubject and time studied. This interest had a part at all ages. Let me
makesome pondering on General Science.

Sincerely,

1. General Science

Though thesubject was called General Science   whenI was studying in the
college respective portions of Physics, Chemistry, Botanyand Zoology were
taught by the respective sections of the department because thoselecturers have
studied more and could present well. They have better knowledgethan good
knowledge.

Other thanGeneral studies used to be a single book, chapters on the different
subjectswere grouped together.  While in middleschool classes the same teacher
could teach all, even at high school level theteachers used to be different. At
middle school level the teacher could teachall just like an MBBS doctor doing
all general treatment.

2. Laws of Physics.

Physics dealtwith physical qualities of nature. Though I studied Raman Effect
why the sky isblue or deep water is blue, an understanding of the physical
qualities came verylate on deep thinking. So it was a nature’s science also.

Today I canwell understand why the apple fallen on ground is a physical law and
also atopic of Botany too. The topic of botany is a ripe fruit would not hold
toplant since it has to falldown and again grow for propagation. The topic of
physics is afalling object has a velocity and this velocity is an important
criterion.

3. Pakku vetti (Aracanut cutter)

On olden daysaracanut was cut in to pieces after removing skin using
Pakkuvetti. Chewingbetel was considered a good habit. Offering betel was
considered an action ofrespect.  This pakkuvetti is made of goodquality iron.
The principle of functioning of this cutter, which can cut the nutwith very
less effort, is physics law. But the material should be harder oneand not
brittle is a chemical identity of material. We cannot make an aracanutcutter
with brass or silver or bronze or copper. Now too cutting machines aremade of
hard material.

While a ripeplantain can be broken in to two with hand an apple cannot though
both arefruits.

4. Gold mining

We know allmetals are from the mother earth. Externally seeing we cannot say
earth is ametal. Metal is not available as a block with in earth also. Here
theprinciples of physics to locate the area where the earth has more contents
ofmetal , then applying different aspects of chemistry to filter them and get
andmaking to block. A new science called Geology combining the two aspects of
Physicsand Chemistry was formed. As our searches go, new and new sciences are
coming!!

We have learntgold, iron, silver all were used during the epic periods. Can we
have any guesshow this science of producing them or finding them was called
then? Was itcalled as science itself?

5. Trees, plants and life

While studyingBotany I have studied plants have life. It is a living being. All
living beingsneed not move. It was very difficult to grasp the plants have life
and hence itgrow, provide fruits for propagation as like humans and animals
propagate andas like other being they too have a natural death. Birth and death
for allplants, trees and creepers. In our life period many plants germinate
from theseeds, grow, flower, mature, give fruits and after some time dry out.

So being avegetarian means, we do not kill animals for our food. That is all..
We are eating, plucking orcutting a living plant.

6. Chemical composition of medicines

If we see anyallopathic medicines we can see the % of different chemicals used.
This medicinecan cure a disease of human .The same way vetinary medicines can
cure theproblems of animals. How the chemical cures an ailment?

So the human or animal body accept chemicals. In fact chemical deficiencies are
made up or required chemical changes are madeas required.

7. Insulin

What actuallyis INJECTING  insulin? It is not a chemical. Insulin is taken from
the pancreas of a goodhuman and then developed in a similar method of cloning!!
So while I injectinsulin, is it not a living part of body or anything with
life?

Update- Nowwith synthetic insulin also the case is not much different –made
from E-coliBacteria.

8 Laser surgery or pinhole surgery

Whereas thesurgery is a point of zoology, the laser beam and its use is a
principle ofPhysics. Hence in nature all these sciences existing or newly
developing havesome interesting links.

9. Where ever and when ever

There is abeautiful saying some people bring happiness WHERE EVER they go. If
you changethat where ever to whenever it will be some people bring happiness
WHENEVERthey go. It simply means some people’s presence is liked and some
people’sabsence is liked.

Can we imaginethe sciences behind it? It can be related to scientific sides of
physics, chemistry, botany and zoology or all?
