Tarawas one of the wives of JUPITER. Recently after reading a posting about Panchakanaysby esteemed member Shri Shivasankara Rao and his reply to my queries in thatconnection, I thought of reposting it with some additions and alterations. One day Jupiter was taking restafter meals in the SUBHA’shome, one of his wives. One of his assistants told, a person hascome with an invitation from Moon his old sishya, to hand over to him and getan acknowledgement. Jupiter said- Ask him to come after thinking a while. The person saluted Jupiter andhanded over an invitation. Moon hadinvited Jupiter to attend yagya with FAMILY. Jupiter immediately prepared apositive acknowledgement and handed over to the messenger. Messenger lefttelling he would hand over the acknowledgement to Moon God which he was awaiting. 2. Who among the wives has to follow? Jupiter had three wives. SUBHA, MAMTA AND TARA.When he received the invitation, he was in the house of SUBHA. TARA was youngest and more handsome andimpressive of the three. Jupiterrecollected her affection to Moon during his gurukulam. Subha enquired Jupiter- What isthe invitation making you to think deeply? On knowing it is from MOON for ayagya, Subha told, either I or Mamta will come with you. LET TARA REMAIN HERE. Subha had many things in her mind whilemaking the statement. Jupiter replied – Why can’t youdiscuss with Mamta and Tara, probably Tara may be more interested to come. Youboth have come with me in many journeys. Subha called Mamta. Mamta agreed either of them willgo with him. Let Tara remain here. Both came together to Jupiter andput forth their view. Mamta used to agree with the elder Subha, who was moreforeseeing. Jupiter asked them- What is Tara’s opinion? They jointlysaid- We desire any of us will come without touching anywhere. Probably theytoo would have observed special affection of Tara to Moon. Jupiter’s happy mood disappearedon hearing their reply. He was imagining attending yagya with more handsome andyoung Tara. Jupiter now opened his mind- Tara was expressing her desireto go anywhere recently and I was thinking of taking her to thisyagya on receiving the invitation. To pacify Subha and Mamta he added - This timelet me take Tara. Iwant to please Tara. In forthcoming functions I would take you. Subha and Mamta knew well thenature of Jupiter. They said- In our opinion, youshould not take Tara for this yagya. One of us would remain withher, and one of us will come with you. Still if you desire, we are notagainst your decision. 3. Tara getting ready. On knowing about the yagyainvitation, Tara got ready. Even before Jupiter telling, she advanced- I amonly coming with you for this yagya of Moon. Am I right? Both Subha and Mamtahave come with you many times already. If I am coming it would be moreimpressive. Just think of it. Jupiternodded his head, pleasingly telling Yes, Yes many times. 4. Subha and Mamta talks After Jupiter left with Tara foryagya, Mamta being lonely came to Subha’s house. Subha welcomed her. Afterpreliminary talks Mamta enquired Subha- Sister, why you were of the view thatone of us will go and not Tara with Jupiter. There could be some reasoning foryou. Subha replied- I was recollecting her special affection to moon by Tara. Nowshe is more handsome and impressive. You may be knowing, therewas some black mark for Moon and got set right later to some extent. Hence Ipersonally did not like to encourage her going to the yagya organized by MOON. Mamta was curious to know of theblack mark. Subha detailed to her the AHALAYA STORY where INDRA approached herin the form of her husband sageGAUTHAMA, and MOON took the form of cock to assist Indra, to announce it is themorning, by its “Kooval “(cawing) and inlater incidents Moonwas cursed to have no body. Finally Moon’s co-brother Lord Siva helped tohave full body once in 15 days, then decrease gradually to nil body. Againincrease in 15 days to full body. (Waxing and waning of MOON). Even Lord Sivacould help partially only. 4. Grand welcome to Jupiter. Moon was waiting at the doorstepon hearing Jupiter is reaching with his wife Tara. He received both. Rohini was with Moon for receiving. Tara shook hand with Rohinitelling “How are you Tara, my name sake” (Rohini is also calledTara) They were seated by Moon inprominent seats. 5. Yagya begins It was a very big yagya. Thepremises were full. To talk of prominentpersonalities, there was Yama Dharma with one of his wives to attend the yagyaof his co-brother. There was Lord Siva with Sati another prominent co brother gracing theoccasion. There was Kashyapa his eldest co-brother with one of his wives. (All have their wives- daughters of sage Kashyapa) With twenty-seven wives fromASWATHI TO REVATHI, Moon was getting ready for Yagya impressing everybody. Moon was of course referring to ROHINI thanothers .Sometimescalling Tara which could mean either Rohini or Tara –wife of Jupiter.. Though other wives of Moon well noted it,being yagya they did not bother too much. It would spoil the mood of MOON. He requested Jupiter and Tara toactively participate in the yagya. TARA TOOK IT LITERALLY. Yagya commenced. Taraby her handsome appearance and movements impressed all and Moon was very happyof her active participation. One of the assembled commented-IS TARA MORE HAND SOMETHAN Thara? It hit Moon somewhere. Jupiter thought- What a nicething in this big yagya, I brought Tara. Now I recollect a lengthyconversation between God Krishna with Droupadi Krishnaa, a conversation betweenKrishna’s. 6. Tara missing. Yagya was going on. Tara was brisklymoving here and there, actively participating with MOON. Yagya completed.Jupiter talking with some others, could not observe too much to Tara’spresence. One moment hefelt Tara was not seen anywhere. Her voice was missing. He searched. Tara was missing. 7. Jupiter returns without Tara. Nobody could locate Tara. Jupiter had to go without Tara after yagya. He was not in a mind to get yagyashare etc. Like the squirrel which lost the nut (Andi kalanja annan), Jupiter reached alone toSubha’s house. 8. Appoazhe Jnan paranjillae… To whom else Jupiter can tell hissorrow. After laying down in the cot, Jupiter called Subha. Subha came and satnear his cot. Jupiternarrated the incidents and missing of Tara all on a sudden after Yagya. With sorrow Subha said- AppozhaeJnan paranjillae Kondu pokanda, pokandannu… 9. Jupiter makes enquiry through all sources Jupiter was totally unhappy andsorrowful by the missing of Tara. Subha and Mamta too were unhappy not to havewith them impressive and nice talking Tara. But where is Tara? After a lot of enquiries it came to be known, she was secretly kept byMoon and safe with him. Nobody could suspect him. 10. Jupiter enquires Moon and asks him to return Tara. Moon finally agreed Tara is with him. But he was not ready tosend her back to Jupiter. Jupiter againasked after a few weeks. Moon had least consent to send back Tara 11. War for years between Jupiter and Moon. Jupiter decided to have war with MOON only theway to get back Tara. War started between Moon and Jupiter-Between two Deva. Some of theDevas took sides with Jupiter while the others with Moon. Without success orfailure to either the war continued for years. Tara remained with Moon. 12. Stop it, Send back Tara- Brahma interfered. If it was not obeyed, what wouldhave been the effect of Brahmas’s curse was thought by Moon. Already he had abad experience from sage Gauthama and his co brother Lord Siva had tointerfere. 13. I will return Tara. Moon finally agreed he will sendback Tara. Withindays Tara reached Jupiter. Tara had physical change, Subha and Mamta couldeasily observed it, they being women. Tara was pregnant. She wasalready conceived from relation with Moon while arriving. For Jupiter, Tara was conceivedwas least important, her coming was important. Jupiter warmly welcomed Tara. Moon too later never turned towards Tara 14. Birth of Budha. In due course, Tara gave birth toa beautiful son. Later the child becomes BUDHA, the intelligent. 15. Tarabalam. Our sasthrikal recite the manthra forauspicious occasions, “Tara balam Chandra Balam Thathaiva, Vidya Balam, DeivaBalam Thathaiva, Om Lakshmi Pathathae, angriyugam smarami… Tara told there is for the STAROF THE DAY. Once I was talking Tara story andbirth of Budha to one of my close friends. I just like that told, see, Tara was a force of attraction(Balam) like magnetic pull.That is why, Moon abducted her, lived along with her, and ensued war foryears and just for FEARING CURSE from Brahma returned her. I added, similarly for Jupiter,he had two wives even after losing Tara and a son throughthe second wife Mamta- KACHHAN. Still he wanted Tara back and ensued war for years. Finally even after knowing shewas consumed, it was an insignificant matter to Jupiter. He wanted Tara. So this could be due to someattractive force with her. He told- You are correct sir, ifat all it is you’re imagination, I findsome fact in it. I thought of adding ithere. 16. Budha and Moon In Astrology, Budha consider Moonas number one enemy. I need not expand the reason. However Moon does not consider so. So if placementof Budha is in Kataka rasi, Budha would have least power and intelligence couldbe low. It is a general statement. With all his intelligence, aperson having strong Budha in Lagna is found wavering in nature.
