I thought I would:
*What’s the meaning of life? *This is the wrong question to ask. It’s like
asking “what’s the meaning of water?” So there’s no meaning *to* life,
because life can’t have a meaning. But you can live a *meaningful life*
<https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/nietzsches-three-steps-to-a-meaningful-life-f063793adfc4>.
What meaning you give your life is not only up to you, it’s what you have
to live with.
KR What is meaning?. What I attributed as the best of my action is
meaningful life that means.
*What’s the best philosophy for life?*
The best philosophy for life is *your own* philosophy for life
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/nietzsche-finding-your-superhumanity-8a2b8e7e5bdb>.
Take inspiration
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/philosophy-books-for-self-isolation-613fa62c26aa>
from others
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/four-philosophies-to-inspire-you-de73e1718286>,
but make your own way for yourself, don’t mindlessly
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/toward-stoicism-3-0-694f2fbf6e41> follow a
pack.
KR When you are going to have your own why would waste time in for the
inspiration from others?
*Should I have children?*
For me, this is the ultimate philosophical question: should we add more
human beings to the world? If you have faith in human beings, go ahead
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/contemplating-fatherhood-b297fe2a466>.
If not, then don’t.
KR Yes have children thro many women addressless
*Can we be happy when there’s so much suffering in the world?*
Yes
<https://stevengambardella.medium.com/happiness-or-compassion-73aa60c7156e>.
KR does not others 'sufferings make one happy?
*What is happiness?*
Happiness is self-sufficiency. It cannot be found in things that are at the
mercy of fate
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/boethius-the-meaning-of-life-on-death-row-fb078509bc8f>.
If all the stuff that “belongs” to you can be taken away in an instant, it
is not really yours. Your health, wealth and reputation are at the mercy of
chance, you shouldn’t entrust your happiness with them. Tranquillity lies
in the bed of wisdom.
KR And the wisdom arise from that bed only after the happiness?.
*What do I need to be happy?*
If you’re reading this, you probably have everything you need to be happy
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/if-you-can-enjoy-a-glass-of-water-you-can-enjoy-life-9fccb523413d>.
Here’s some ancient advice
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/the-ancient-four-part-cure-for-unhappiness-5da64223df2b>:
Don’t fear, don’t worry, enjoy what you have, bear your pains cheerfully.
It’s not easy, but it’s possible.
KR in short to advise is easier than done
*Is there a perfect way to approach life?*
No. People are not machines
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/wittgenstein-intelligence-is-never-artificial-51933315d1bd>
. Life is an art
<https://medium.com/mind-cafe/montaigne-the-art-of-life-a50285c69128>, not
a science.
KR lest it will be robotic
*How can we find true freedom?*
True freedom is not simply being free to do whatever you want. True freedom
is understanding *why* you want what you want
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/spinoza-how-to-be-free-2581481b9221>.
KR why? remain without any want that is also freedom
*What’s the greatest virtue?*
Wisdom is the ultimate virtue
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/socrates-the-many-faces-of-virtue-3ca02fd48b9e>.
Imagine all the other virtues — like temperance, courage, justice — being
facets of the gemstone of wisdom. As wisdom grows, those virtues grow with
it. 💎
KR But there is a say: IGNORANCE IS BLISS and bliss is a virtue.
*What makes a good person?*
Doing good things
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/you-are-condemned-to-be-free-df8277836466>.
You are nothing but what you make of yourself through your own actions.
KR Good things are defined as parting with a lot of money to others
without asking back.
*But how do you define good?*
Understanding that we are waves of the same sea
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/we-are-waves-of-the-same-sea-e112b3ade808>.
The differences between us — no matter where we’re from and what language
we speak — are far more superficial in the grand scheme of things than we
acknowledge.
KR True but forgot that every water droplet only made the sea
*What makes a bad person?*
Lying to yourself
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/sartre-the-integrity-switch-bf55353046ce> that
you can’t be a good person. Excuses like, “I *need* to work for a
morally-dubious company to support my family,” are reasons in bad faith.
You don’t *need* to do anything.
KR too bad speaking the truth which makes one bad
*What’s the smartest thing to say in any situation?*
“I don’t know.”
<https://medium.com/personal-growth/montaigne-the-power-of-i-dont-know-71f765fb1d51>
Question everything
<https://medium.com/personal-growth/socrates-living-the-good-life-42b56ad7ae13>.
Always.
KR accepting the ignorance?
*Is there a handbook for life?*
No. But an ancient writer called Arrian had a good shot at it
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/there-is-a-handbook-for-life-dbe8b771fe7>
by
taking down the teachings of his philosophical mentor, Epictetus.
KR Last in line an epicurean?
*Where can I find good advice?*
Good advice comes from people you trust. Learning how to trust comes with
experience. Bad advice usually comes with a charge. Or, worse still, tries
to sell you merchandise
<https://forge.medium.com/the-banality-of-pop-stoicism-2c32631e922b>.
KR And that place is a PUB.
*Do I have a purpose in life?*
No. Life is like dancing, it has no purpose but should be fun as you’re
doing it. The dance has to end soon, so make the most of dancing. There’s
no goal, but neither is any step lacking in purpose. You can live life
*with* purpose even without *a* purpose
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/the-philosophy-of-pixars-soul-b23bcf96bf16>.
KR Purposeless is the purpose and the the pure end is the futureless too
*Why do we exist?*
This question is impossible to answer by virtue that we do exist. You may
as well wonder what your own heart looks like.
KR Ha ha A laughing question.
*Why is there something and not nothing?*
There is no such thing as “nothing”. Many cultures through history have
accepted that there’s no alternative to existence. Modern western culture
is fixated on the idea that things began somewhere or somehow. No
explanation for how things began are adequate, we’ll always have the
problem of the first mover.
KR Yes there is nothing only when there is some thing and some thing
when there is nothing; did I make you clear? Sorry I am drunk.
*Is there a God?*
That’s for you alone to discover for yourself. Don’t let anybody else tell
you otherwise
<https://medium.com/the-sophist/tolstoys-moral-lesson-69754892d899>.
KR When there was no word GOD heard from the air from others how one can
thing about GOD at all? Begging the question?
*Should I pray?*
Whatever you believe in, do not pray to be spared of misfortune. You’ll be
sorely disappointed. Pray instead for the strength to bear misfortune
<https://medium.com/personal-growth/marcus-aurelius-the-control-switch-953d2b646b97>
.
KR Yes one who prays only is living I mean at least thrice a day stomachful
*Is death the end?*
I suspect we’ll never know for sure, so let’s think of it as being so. It’s
better to think of death as not the end, but the beginning
<https://medium.com/@stevengambardella/montaigne-to-philosophize-is-to-learn-to-die-1384f273bfbf>.
By this I mean that if death were not waiting in the wings of life, what
would motivate us to do anything more than tending to our most basic needs?
Death gets you out of bed.
KR Death if it gets me out of bed I have one more day to go so why
think of dearth?
This is a work in progress. Got a question? Leave a comment, and I’ll try
to answer it as best I can.
KR It was painful but gulp it as a joke. KR IRS 732`1
