*azhukkAru – jealousy on others properity*

*avA – desires driven through the five senses*

*veguLi – Anger which are causes by the desires and the dejections because

*innAsol – Words spoken in anger*

*nAngum – these four which are like the dirt in her mind*

*iyanRadhu – whateve one can do*

*aRam – is virtuous or acts of virtue*

Instead of listing the virtues and virtues ways, if we eliminate certain
undesirable traits that are bad, we automatically tread the virtuous ways
in our lives. This is the truth established by vaLLuvar in this verse.

The traits that have to be eliminated are:

   - Our jealousy at other’s prosperity and accomplishments
   - Our indulgence in desires driven by our senses
   - Our anger at others with or without reason.
   - Our caustic verbiage that cause pain to others

Listing the good traits is a way of emphasizing, but lisitng the bad traits
that have to be eliminated from us is a more powerful and , though
indirect, is an effective, which is what vaLLuvar has doen through this
verse.

Since most of us are victims of our own bad thoughts and traits (more than
good deeds which yield fruits much later to be seen or felt.), we see the
effects of our own and others bad traits very easily. So, vaLLuvar has used
this effectively to emphasize the importance of leading a virtuous life.
If the list is short and sweet, then it makes it easy for people to even
accept them and give them a serious try!

Very crisply, he has listed only four bad traits that have to be out of our
system to automatically lead virtuous life. If there are example situations
or stories behind each one of them, people can probably understand better
as they ought to have seen the ill effects of each one of them in their
lives more than once. If we start reflecting on even for a second and try
avoiding them or begin eliminating them in small steps, it will bring in
the desired fruition.

Jealousy, desires, anger, words that are caustic,

Eliminated , brings virtuous life that is automatic.

When lust and wrath and error's triple tyranny is o'er,
Their very names for aye extinct, then pain shall be no more.

If the very names of these three things, desire, anger, and confusion of
mind, be destroyed, then will also perish the evils (which flow from them).
