Q1         What are oxygenconcentrators? How are they different from cylinders?

A1          Siddhant Pandey Sun, 25April, 2021, 9:47 pm

As India faces a shortage of hospital beds amid a record surge incoronavirus
infections, several of those infected have had to seek treatment athome.

Equipment that can supply oxygen to COVID-19 patients experiencing a dropin
oxygen saturation—such as oxygen concentrators and oxygen cylinders—is nowin
demand among patients being treated at home.

Here's all you need to knowabout oxygen concentrators.

Definition: What is an oxygenconcentrator?

An oxygen concentrator uses ambient air to concentrate oxygen. It candispense
90-95% pure oxygen by compressing it from atmospheric air, whichcomprises 21%
oxygen and 78% nitrogen.

The air is first filtered through a sieve, and the nitrogen is releasedback
into the air.

The oxygen is concentrated inside the device and a pressure valve helpsregulate
the supply, ranging from 1-10 liters/minute.

Efficiency: Concentrators cangenerate 90-95% pure oxygen

According to experts, the 90-95% pure oxygen generated by oxygenconcentrators
is good enoughfor mild and moderate COVID-19 patients with oxygen saturation
levels above85%.

However, this oxygen is notadvisable for ICU patients, who benefit from 99%
Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO).

Further, concentrators can be attached to multiple tubes to serve twopatients,
this may raise the risk of cross-infection.

Cylinders: How areconcentrators different from oxygen cylinders?

Unlike oxygen cylinders, that need to be stored and transported in
cryogenictankers, oxygen concentrators are portable and need no special
temperature.

Cylinders also requirerefilling, however, concentrators only need a power
source to function.

Concentrators can supply 5-10 liters of oxygen per minute and are hence, not
suited for critical patients, who may need 40-50 liters per minute.

Advantage: What are its advantages over cylinders?

Notably, concentrators cost around Rs. 40,000-90,000 and are moreexpensive than
cylinders (Rs. 8,000-20,000).

However, concentratorsare mostly a one-time investment, with little operational
cost apart fromelectricity and routine maintenance.

Cylinders, on the other hand, involve refilling costs and transportation.

Concentrators can produceoxygen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 5
years or more.

Q2         As an anesthesiologist, what did a patient say before going under
that you’ll never forget?

A2          James Hofmann November13

I once began anesthetic induction on a man in his mid forties. After some
sedation, as Istarted to inject the anesthetic, he began to tell a joke. I
hadn’theard the joke before, and it seemed to be very interesting and promised
a goodpunch line. I slowed my injection to let him finish. There was a big
build up,and just as he got tothe punch-line he fell asleep.

The surgery and anesthetic proceeded without incident. He emerged
fromanesthesia and was transported to the recovery room. I waited patiently for
himto be fully awake. Justbefore discharge from the recovery room I visited him
and told him that he wastelling a joke as he went under anesthesia and I was
hoping to hearthe punch line.

He, of course, did not remember what he had said preoperatively becauseof the
sedation, and asked me what joke he was telling.

I repeated everything up to thepunch-line, and told him i was anxious to hear
the rest.

He looked at me with a puzzled expression on his face, and replied “I never
heard that joke in mylife.”

They say that learning is a state dependent phenomenon, and you recallthings
best in the state you were in when you learned them. I assumed that he may have
heard thejoke in the past when he was under some sedation, possibly in a bar,
and he recalledit under the influence of the sedation - even though it was not
readilyavailable to his fully conscious mind post-operatively. At leastthat may
be one explanation. In any case, I spent the rest of the day wonderingwhat the
punch-line was.

Q3         Who is more powerful AdiShakti or Lord Vishnu?

A3          Sunitha Parapatla September21, 2020 Devotee of God Shiva and a Home
maker

Who is more powerful, Adi Shakthi or Shri Vishnu ??

Firstly, they both are one andthe same. They are differentpersonalities of the
Supreme Parabrahman, and Adi Shakthi is worshipped as thePara_devatha.

Shri Vishnu and Goddess AdiShakthi are brother and sister. How ??

When we refer God Shiva as Shankara, then Adi Shakthi is Shankari.

When God Shiva is Shambu, She is Shambhavi.

When Shiva is Shankara, then She is Shankari.

When Shiva is Eashwara, She is Eashwari.

When Shiva is Bhairava, She is Bhairavi.

When Shiva is Rudra, She is Rudrani.

Shiva is Veerabhadra, She is Bhadrakaali.

But when the Parabrahman isNarayana, then Goddess Shakthi is Narayani.

Here Narayani is not His consort Lakshmi, but she is Goddess Parvathi andshe is
sister to Shri Narayana / Shri Vishnu and consort of God Shiva.

This is what our Holy Vedas, puranas and Upanishads say.

Narayani or Goddess Shakthi is the one who represents the real nature ofthe
material world, this once again emphasises on the primordial power of
thefeminine form of God.

Narayani also denotes "the innate power behind ultimate god".It also means "she
who provides the basis for all living things. She whois the power behind Shri
Narayana." She, who is the power of illusionbehind Shri Narayana, she who is
the personification of salvation, she who isfit to be worshipped by the Gods.

So both Shri Vishnu and AdiShakthi are one and the same, it depends upon our
perspective in which form we want to see Him / Her. Also In ShaktaMahabhagwat
Purana, Mata Kali incarnated as Sri Krsna.

Q4         How's life after gettinga government job in India? How does life and
its aspects get changed?

A4          Inderjeet Singh Sun AssistantManager at Union Bank Of India
(2019–present)

In June 2019, I joined Union Bank of India as Probationary Officer. The 1year
Induction training was really fun. Phase 1 classroom program was in Bhopaland
Phase 2 was in Lucknow.

Meeting fellow probationers and get to live a hostel life for a month or
sowhile training was a really fun experience. From celebrating birthdays
togetherto exploring a new city and its food. Had some really good memories in
both thetraining phases.

Initially, received a lot of congratulatory calls and messages. Everyoneasking
for a party and parents felt so proud. People asked for strategies andhow to
prepare for exams. Got felicitated by the same coaching institute Ijoined for
the same exam. Although it was more like promoting the instituterather than the
strategy build up for the aspirants.

Now its been more than 1.5years, and everything seems as usual.

Go to work, come back home. In the weekend, pursue a hobby or hangoutwith your
buddies and plan for the next trip to Himachal or Goa.

The life becomes usual and yourealize it is just another job from your side.
Same work routine and chit chat with colleagues along with the work.
Yourfriends will call and say, “Aur bhai mauj kardi! Govt PSU mein hai bhai
tu,maze hain.” Yes, jobstability and other perks are there. But you feel it is
more like any otherjob. The ridiculous work pressure and targets sometimes
annoy you tothe core but then again, I joined the bank, no one else asked me to
do so.

But after all this, whatsatisfies the most is the financial independence along
with the feeling ofcracking competitive exams after an eternity of preparation.

The difference between an aspirant and selected candidate becomes clearand the
value of being in thetop few thousands out of lacs gives a sense of
satisfaction.

Q5         If vedas predate thepuranas then how can Atharvaveda 10.8.17,
11.9.24, and Chandogya upanishad7.1.2 mention puranas?

A5          V Samarasan 12m ago FormerFrom Aviation sector

Vedas are infinite and eternal, it is open direct for individual withperforming
required Sadhana or inner yoga. Sage Vyasa thought that it was well nigh
impossible forman to study the infinite Vedas within his limited
life-span.Therefore, he classified the Vedas into four broad categories: Rig
Veda, YajurVeda, Sama Veda, and Atharva Veda. Yajur Veda was further divided
into KrishnaYajur Veda and Shukla, In the Dwaper Yuga.

The Upanishads are authentic and authoritative, since they share theglory of
the Vedas. They are 1180 in number, but, through the centuries, manyof them
disappeared from human memory and only 108 have survived. The sage Vyasa
collected availableVedic wisdoms, compiled and classified the Upanishads and
allotted them amongthe four Vedas. The Rig-veda has 21 branches, and each
branch has oneUpanishad allotted to it. The Yajur-veda has 109 branches and 109
Upani- shads. The Atharvana-veda has 50 branches and 50 Upanishads. The
Sama-veda has 1000and 1000. Thus, Vyasa assigned the 1180 Upanishads to the
four Vedas. Vyasa wrote puranas too.

Yajur Veda. The vastness of the subject of the Vedas is conveyed by
theirseveral other names, such as Sruti, Trayee, Chandas, Swadhyaya, Nigama,
Agama,etc.

Rig Veda belongs to Indus valley, Yajurveda to Ganges river settlements, and
Sama Veda to Narmada valley settlements. All these three Vedas are
calledtrayee.

Atherva vada is based on Karma,an application . It gave six upa vedas.

My note- I think answer to thequestion is not there. Learnt members can
respond. I have added this QA for the vedicinformation.

Q7         Shouldn't the windows inthe buggies of Indian trains open sideways
rather than vertically because manypeople are hurt due to the closure of the
window on their hand resting there?

A7          Subhasis Dutta Roy April22 Working in Indian Railways at Indian
Railways (2001–present)

It is the typical window position of an Indian Railway's passenger train.

As per the present position toopen any window you have to lift it in an upwards
direction. After pulling itupside you have to lock your window.

There are three steps of locks provides in every window. You can setthose locks
as per your requirement of opening.

Sometimes we rest our hand after opening the window like this. It isdangerous.
If the locks failed by any chance it may hurt your hand.

To avoid this railway alsoprovides a spring arrangement with some window so
that it may not fall directly. It is the second layer of security. But it is
notprovided with all the windows. This spring helps to protect your hands
frominjuries.

Why Indian Railways its windowssideways?

Railways try to provide a maximum level of comfort for passengers withthe air
circulation as maximum as possible. This the window arrangements frominside of
complement

You can see the gap between thetwo windows. It is not possible technically the
sideways for windows.

So the lifting of windows arrangements done vertically. If it didsideways then
the length of one window must be shorter than the other.

But it is against the equality of distribution of tickets.

So it is optimum from both points of views to open windows verticallythan
sideways.

My note- But new coaches ingeneral or sitting has windows opening sideways. I
have travelled in such coachrecently in the Kovai express.
